How to use YUM to update your system / install new packages
I have been playing with the red had fedora core OS for a couple of days now. I wanted to get a grasp on it so that way i could have an objective view of which linux distro is the best.
I am attempting to install hylafax server on red hat after doing the same installation on my Debian box to see the difference in how easy / hard each one is.
First let me say that so far the Debian installation is much easier and only took two or three commands. (i'll write this up in a bit)
To use yum type:
yum update && yup upgrade
yum search [packagename or part of the package name]
yum install [exact package name]
This worked similarly to the apt-get install command that you would find on debian but in my opinion, was slower, and didn't work all that great. I can see now why linux just isn't mainstream yet, not enough people have found out about debian yet.
Well i know i frustrated. I think i switch back to debian.
