For all bandsaw operations there is a need choosing the right blade. Bandsaw blades can be made with a number of different materials. For different purposes the right kind of blade provides the best result. Moreover, it will improve the product quality and will lower the machine downtime for the blade changing. In all, a quality of blade increases your productivity.
Every material has it own durability and sawing features, therefore, you need to be aware of their characteristics. Aluminum, brass and bronze are soft cutting materials and produce low cutting forces which can quickly clog a blade tooth gullet. To reduce the clogging effects, specify blades with large tooth gullets when if you need to cut soft ,long -chipping material.
Ferrous material are made hard creating high cutting forces and fine chips. Alloys utilized in the manufacturing give way for the mechanical ability. Low alloy steel particularly contain vanadium, chromium and increase the hardness of the blade. While the alloys of titanium are not too hard but their sharpness level increases the blade wear. Superalloys like Inconel contain chromium, iron makes chip formation a bit difficult. Making the right selection for a bandsaw blade for any material is initiated with the material to be cut.
Other factors include the piece of work, size and shape of the bandsaw blade. The thin walled materials liketube, pipe, and sheet which can be best cut with blades of fine pitch. Large heavy material are cut with high coarse-pitch blades.
Nowadays, bandsaw blades offers high-speed-steel cutting edge or a carbide cutting tip. Previously the bimetal blades were composed of hardened steel teeth and the carbide-tipped blades have a spring-steel backing, but their teeth are hard, abrasion-resistant carbide.
Now comes the tooth selection part, a tooth set is extent of tooth bend from the center blade line width. The cut is made wider than the blade itself. You can also opt for a set in which the each unset tooth is followed with set teeth in the right and left pattern. The versatile combination work well for the softer steels.
Bandsaw blades are available in faster cuts with a longer blade life. Once you make a right choice for them you can have hefty payouts in any kind of sawing-process.

I must cut some extruded aluminum box tube–what blade for a “chop” saw?
I need to cut some extruded aluminum rectangular tubing with a 0.093″ thick wall. To keep the ends very square I want to use my 12″ chop saw. What blade should I use?
Someone told me using an abrasive blade on aluminum will slightly melt the edges causing a very bad burr. Would a carbide tipped blade work? How many teeth would you recommend?
The Aluminum cutting blade in the web link is 6.5″ with 36 teeth. This comes to 1.8 teeth per inch, so I will try a 68 to 72 tooth 12″ blade tonight. I will also try an abrasive blade specified for metal. I’ll report back tomorrow.
There are aluminum cutting carbide tipped blades, such as
